I just recently watched The Avengers. I went to see it for the mid-night premier in Imax 3d, and I have to say I wasn’t disapointed. If you don’t already know it has an allstar cast with Robert Downey Jr. ( as Iron man), Chris Evans ( as Captain America), Mark Ruffalo ( as the Hulk), Chris Hemsworth ( as Thor), Scarlett Johansson (as Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (as Hawkeye), Tom Hiddleston ( as Loki), and many more star actors. In this movie Nick Fury( played by Samuel Jackson) is the leader of a secret government organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D.. Nick Fury realizes the only way to save the world from the evil Loki, is to bring together a team of elite soldiers.

This movie, in my opinion is hands down the best superhero movie of all time. It is highly action packed keeping the movie intense. I thought the Hulk added some well timed punches of humor, and the air time between the superheros was balanced. I recommend this one for comic book fans, non comic book fans, pretty much anyone!

The Avengers- rated PG-13

Great pick

4/17/12

Recently, we watched a few movies.

The first one was War Horse (PG-13), it’s about a young man’s best friend who is a beautiful brownish and white horse. The horse (whose name is Joey) is separated from the young man (whose name is Albert) and is trained to become a war horse. Joey goes on a long journey through World War One. The movie has a wonderful picture, the acting is brillant, and of course the directing was genius! Yes, it’s another great movie from Steven Speilberg! We recommend this movie for anyone, a great family movie!

The second movie was We Bought A Zoo, which is a true story about Benjamin Me (played by Matt Damon), and his family who purchase a home that also involves the up keep of a zoo. The zoo has been shut down for a while, and they must take on the challenges of preparing it for a reopening. Another good family movie as this one is rated PG. It is directed by Cameron Crowe.

The third movie we watched was The Descendants (R). This movie is good, if you watch it with the understanding it is going to be sad. Matt King, who is played by George Clooney, is a real estate lawyer in Hawaii. His wife is in an accident that has left her in a permanent coma. He is left trying to figure out how to raise his two girls without her help. During the movie he is faced with his wife’s secrets, as well as his family’s inheritance. Although George Clooney did an excellent job in this movie, I would not recommend it, unless you like super sad movies.

Lastly, we watched The Darkest Hour(PG-13). At the first glance of the cover, this movie might look a little cheesy. There arenn’t many ‘known’ actors in the movie either. You might recognize a couple people, but not know their names if someone asked. The whole mood of the movie is end of the world via weird alien invaders, who appear at first only as electrical pulses. Once these aliens touch anything, it turns to ashes. The few people who survive the initial invasion try to find a way to kill the aliens while trying to find other survivors across the world. This is not a bad rental for a ‘B’ movie and would recommend watching it.

great pick- War Horse (PG-13)

good pick- We Bought A Zoo (PG)

okay pick- The Descendants (R)

good pick- The Darkest Hour (PG-13)

My wife and I enjoy watching movies. We have always talked about critiquing movies, and we finally decided to do it. We are going to try to critique at least one movie a month, if not more. So, make sure to check back for new critiques!

03/08/12

So far, we recommend Safe House. We actually got to watch this movie at the theater, which is a rarity! Safe House stars Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds. You go through the inner workings of the CIA with lots of action and a good twist at the end. This a typical role for Denzel, but he makes it exciting and different. This is an adult flick with a movie rating of R.

Tower Heist is a movie we rented. At first we were unsure if it would be good, but its surprised us with its humor and mystery. It has an all star cast, which includes Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Alan Alda, Tea Leoni, Casey Affleck, Matthew Broderick, and other rising young actors. This movie takes you inside a millionare’s apartment building. Follow the lives of the employees and apartment owners in this funny money heist adventure. You will definitely have lots of laughs as these guys try to pull off the heist of a lifetime. I believe this has a PG-13 rating, so it’s good for almost all audiences.

Good Picks– Safe House & Tower Heist

04/05/12
The greatly anticipated movie The Hunger Games was indeed a must see on the big screen. The movie follows the book closely, so if you enjoy the book you’ll definitely like the movie. For the few who don’t know the basis of the story here it is: It’s set in the future, earth is ruled by a place called The Capital. There are twelve districts a young female and a young male from each district is selected to fight for survival until only one remains standing. The winner will have their district awarded with an assortment of food for an entire year. Yes, there is alot of violence , so you might not want to bring kids under thirteen. We both highly recommend this one!

We rented Immortals. Visually and in theory this movie seems like it would be awesome; but after watching it, Immortals is only average. This movie is about Thesious and his journey (even though he is not aware he is on a jounery) to save mankind and eventually become an immortal (a Greek God) himself. This movie takes place in ancient Greece, around 1100 BC. The imagery is very beautiful and the graphics were awesome, but overpowering for the genre of movie. And if you missed any part of the movie you were probably going to be lost and questioning what was going on. If you like Ancient Greek myths, this is the movie for you, but if you aren’t, I would not suggest it.

Good Pick– The Hunger Games (rated pg-13)

Bad Pick– Immortals (rated R)
